1798 S-145 3 15+ 12 1,250.00 Style 1 Hair.  Olive brown with even surface graininess.  There is a small gash on the drapery over the 8.  LDS, with die swelling on the upper right reverse.  REVERSE DOUBLE STRUCK.  This coin stuck in the obverse die and was struck again, with a slight counter-clock-wise rotation.             A 

1798 S-152 2 8 6 375.00 Brown with smooth, glossy surfaces.  There are several scattered marks, mostly on the center of the obverse and reverse.      A

1798 S-159 3 15 10+ 1,000.00 Brown with smooth, glossy surfaces.  Many tiny marks.  A tough variety to find decent.                   A

1798 S-162 4 15+ 12 1,950.00 Medium brown with smooth surfaces, although there is some minor verdigris on the rev.  Tiny obv. rim bruise at
6:00.  Some minor circ. marks.  Tied for Condition Census #14.     A

1798 S-162 4 35 25 7,500.00 Brown with smooth, glossy surfaces. Some minor circ. marks. Old, light planchet crack from obv. rim at 3:00 to the ear. Another on right obv. field. A piece has broken off this lamination leaving bright copper. A very old, light scrape on the rev. high points. Tied for Condition Census #4. A

1798 S-170 3 35 25+ 3,250.00 Olive brown with smooth surfaces that are a little dull, Some minor crud in devices. Tied for Condition Census #12.  A

 

 1798 S-170 3 40 35 8,000.00 2nd Hair Style. Brown with smooth, glossy surfaces. Some minor circ. marks. There is a planchet flaw on the rev. rim under 10. Another on the rev. rim at 8:30. Tied for Condition Census #4. Ex-Stack’s, 6-15-1983, Lot 413; Jack Robinson; Superior, 1-29-1989, Lot 346; Tom Reynolds; unknown. Noyes Photo #39213. Comes with the auction inserts. A+

1798 S-170 3 45 40 14,000.00 Brown with some minor toning spots. Smooth, glossy surfaces. Some minor circ. marks. Old, light scratch from feet of OF to berry below. EDS. Removed from  a PCGS Holder graded XF45.  Tied for Condition Census #2. A+

1798 S-176 4 6+ 5 335.00 Brown with smooth, glossy surfaces.  There is a tiny obverse rim tick at 12:30.  There are a few reverse rim disturbances.  There is an old scratch from D to S on the reverse.  EDS.          A

 

 1798 S-177 4+ 35 25 7,500.00 Chocolate with very slight surface granularity.  A tiny planchet flaw before the mouth.  Another on the obv. rim at 6:30.  The rev. of this coin was heavily covered with raised green lumps, which I removed.  Look at Noyes Photo #22949 to see the before and click on my pictures to see the after.  Even Noyes agreed it is substantially improved.  Tied for Condition Census #4.  Ex-Carl Wurtzbach;  William Sheldon;  Dorothy Paschal;  C. 1798 S-187 4+ 45 45 7,250.00 Second Hair Style.  Brown with smooth, glossy surfaces.  Some very trivial marks.  LDS, with a obverse rim cud at 3:00.  Tied for Condition Census #8.  Noyes Photo #39587.  A very common 1798 variety that would make a great date or type coin.       A+
